The Story
Artek half round dining table designed by Alvar Aalto. Designed in the 1935 and manufactured in Finland. This table is approximately from the 1980s and made from birch wood with a red laminated top. The special feature of this table is the semi-circular table top and the L-shaped legs, which make the otherwise simple table an absolute eye-catcher. This shape is ideal for smaller apartments that do not fit a large dining table. The semi-circular table is simply placed against the wall and offers enough space for two chairs or stools. The table is in great condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has some normal signs of usage.
Alvar Aalto, together with carpenter Otto Korhonen, began experimenting with bending solid wood in the late 1920s. The collaboration resulted in an L-leg, which was an invention that took a step towards the mass production of Aaltoâs furniture. Alvar Aalto patented the L-leg bending technique in 1933. L-leg became to be the standard component for Aaltoâs furniture design and based on the invention also Y-leg and X-leg were later developed. Â
